Oud. Oudh. I love it, .... and I can't help being intrigued
when I see a fragrance with it. So, when I purchased Roses &
Chocolate from Aus Liebe Zum Duft I requested Roseaoud & Musc as one of my 3 free samples.

The first time I wore it, I immediately fell in lust.

Notes

Here are the Official Notes from the house of Mancera:

Top Notes: Hot Spices
Heart Notes: Saffron Powder, Rose & Jasmine from Grasse
Base Notes: Sandalwood from India, Aoud & White Musk

The Scent

Wow. Now THIS is SEXY. This is the fragrance you know you shouldn't wear,
but you just can't help it.

Concequences... what concequences?

The classy Mancera aoud is the main note, followed by a muted yet sultry
rose with a lick of musk.

The sandalwood & saffron refine this perfume with a perfect smooth creamy twist however it's the jasmine that backs
up the entire fragrance giving it a golden champagne sparkle.

Last but certainly NOT least - a very delightful, sultry dash of spice gives
Roseaoud & Musc a SUPER SEXY kick & an animalistic twist. REOW!

Nothing is overpowering, including the aoud making this a wonderfully well blended fragrance.

Roseaoud & Musc is an AMAZING scent. Perfect for any season, lovely in Winter but you know what? It also works Summer.

Is this for Women or Men?

Either. Or. Both!

Mancera's Roseaoud & Musc is definitely Unisex in my opinion.

Personally I would certainly find it
sexy on a man. Would men like it? Well, some men may find the jasmine a little daunting but due
to the spice - which certainly includes a dash of cumin - it would 100% work on a man. Gentlemen, you just have to be
able - or WANT to be able to pull it off.

Either way, a sample is worthy.

Vice versa, men would definitely find it very very sexy on a woman.

Compliments?

You know, I have hardly had any compliments on Roseaoud & Musc (mostly from women) but, I
suppose I mainly wear it to work so perhaps most people don't want to mention
it? Who knows? But, you know what - I don't care. I know I smell gooooooood. :D

Lasting Power

Roseaoud & Musc lasts at least 6 hours on me. Okay maybe not the longest lasting fragrance in my collection but I think that's pretty good!

Will I Buy It?

YES!
I already did! I wanted it immediately after the first day I tried it. I
bought a 100ml & love wearing it. Would I buy it again? Yes, but
lets face it, this bottle will last me forever so another Mancera would
be in my sights.

Do I Recommend It?

YES YES YES YES YES. OH YES!Diary Of A Perfume Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12581277439243434975noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1084327874038601016.post-89194727181300635662014-02-23T20:29:00.002+11:002014-02-27T21:01:20.366+11:00Very Disappointed with Luckyscent - Order Not Received & No answer to 4 emails :(<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">It is with extreme sadness that I write this post. :( I loved Luckyscent & recommended them to everyone I could. But now, well. Read on.

You may remember my excited post in regards to my 4th Luckyscent order. The order was an early bonus Christmas gift from my significant other (SO), who told me to get a few samples. He never says that!

So of course I jumped right onto the Luckyscent site before he changed his mind! :-) Excitedly, I ordered some scents that I had been very curious about, such as Etat Libre d’Orange's Secretions Magnifiques

Well, I still haven't received my November sample order, and have found that they are ignoring my emails.

I have checked my email like a demon - nothing is in the spam filter. I am also still receiving newsletters from them. I keep ALL my emails - I have emails from 1999 on my computer. They have not replied so what else would that mean?

Patience

As I ordered in late November, when I had not received my order before Christmas I figured that the Christmas post was delayed & decided to be patient & wait a bit longer.

I sent an email to them in early January once I had received everything else that I had ordered in November & December, as I figured that they had shown up, so my Luckyscent order should have as well.

Still Not Here

Well, a week went by & no reply from Luckyscent. Hmmm strange, oh well I will send another. Same thing - no reply.
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}"><span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">4 emails in I still had not received an email in early February.

I decided to have a bit of a break but here we are on the 23rd of February & I have not received a reply from Luckyscent.

Paypal Dispute?

No, I did not file a dispute with Paypal within the dispute time. The reasons is, well I didn't even think of it. I have always received my Luckyscent orders within 2 weeks or ordering. As I said above I figured that it was stuck in the Christmas mail. It never crossed my mind that I should file a dispute before the 45 day deadline. I didn't even think about this until my 2nd or 3rd email had not been responded to. Even then, I was reluctant to do so. I'd receive it right? I always had before.

I have in the last week or so filed a report with Paypal but it will do no good. I feel that they should know however.

Was it lost in the mail?

I did not opt to pay for tracking because I have never not received any packages -- from Luckyscent or otherwise. They have always arrived. Also, I had the package posted to my SO's workplace which gets many packages each day.

His work has a very reliable mail system & he received every other order he made, as well as all the orders I made in November & December 2013 - from cheap eBay items for small things like phone covers, stickers, tablet protectors - most of which came from cheap shops in China, to other perfumes from different vendors, jewellery, makeup, sunglasses etc. These items were mainly posted from outside Australia, from the UK, US & China.

Did Customs Get It?

No, he would have received a letter if customs had seized the package.
Lately I've tried to stop myself by putting the bottles down & making myself wear something I've long since neglected.

You'll notice a definite trend below - two houses dominate my current faves!

Here's my current top 5:

1. Chocolate Greedy by Montale - a decadent chocolate desert so good it deserves a Michelin star. I love wearing this & could easily make this a signature scent if it wasn't for their other fragrances.

2. Vanille Absolu by Montale - Vanilla vanilla vanilla! Need I say more? An amazing delicious vanilla, rich & creamy. Lasts FOREVER.

3. Nuit de Tubereuse by L`Artisan Parfumeur - Spicy tuberose. I find this fragrance sweet & peppery at the same time. I didn't think I would like this one but it's magical.

4. Black Aoud by Montale - the chameleon of perfumes. Mysterious, powerful, beautiful, intoxicating. This one definitely makes me feel rich & luxurious - no matter what I'm wearing.

5. Tea For Two by L'Artisan Parfumeur - This one is a creeper - passing several fragrances to my top 5. Smoky, a tea party - chai, english breakfast, darjeeling & earl grey in leather pants by the bonfire. Strangely interesting!

I have not written a review for any of the above fragrances. I really need to! Are there any you'd like to see?Diary Of A Perfume Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12581277439243434975noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1084327874038601016.post-59086739942440623882013-11-27T12:44:00.002+11:002014-02-01T20:07:59.714+11:004th Lucky Scent Sample Order

It's been over a year since I ordered from Lucky Scent - I can't believe it!

So, my SO (significant other) was feeling generous when I asked him if he would buy me some samples (woohoo) so I decided to order a few scents & include a couple of controversial perfumes that I have been wanting to try for a while.

Here's what I ordered;

BLOOD Concept - O
Montale - Intense Cafe
Montale - Dark Purple
Etat Libre d’Orange - Tilda Swinton Like This
Etat Libre d’Orange - Secretions Magnifiques
Etat Libre d’Orange - Putain des Palaces
Etat Libre d’Orange - Don't Get Me Wrong Baby, I Don't Swallow
Etat Libre d’Orange - Jasmin et Cigarette
L’Artisan Parfumeur - Al Oudh

Cost:

The cost of the above order comes to $31US + $8US shipping. All in all, about $40AU.

......................

Can't wait to try them. I've been collecting some L'Artisan Pafumeur scents lately but have never tried Al Oudh.

Blood Concept O sounds quite interesting - a perfume that smells like blood? On a similar theme the notorious Secretions Magnifiques (blood sweat & semen?) & Putain des Palaces (Hotel Whore) are scents that have intrigued me with their controversial descriptions. I have to try them for the novelty factor.

Don't Get Me Wrong Baby, I Don't Swallow seems to be controversial in name only & the rest seem relatively tame compared.

Should I film my first impressions????? :D

10/1: Still haven't received my order.... gave it a few more weeks than I would have because of Christmas (I thought it might be caught up in Xmas mail) but I think I really should have received this by now. :(

18/1: Still nothing, no reply to my email sent last week... Sending another one....

24/1: I still haven't received my Luckyscent order. I just sent my 3rd
I love Black Aoud & was interested to read that people think that Dark Aoud is blacker. When I saw it was in the Aoud sample pack, I was excited to try it.

Here's what Montale has to say about Dark Aoud;

A variation on the theme of dark and intense Aoud. The magnificence of the Sandalwood of India sieves this partition of materials come from the depths of the Asian forests.

Perfume Notes:

Indian sandalwood, Aoud, Black Pepper, Saffron, Vetiver, Teak, Leather, & Grey Amber

Some sites list the notes simply as Aoud & Indian Sandalwood however I feel that the above notes actually represent what's in Dark Aoud.

Scent

Wow. This one is well, interesting. I think that being used to the aoud in other Montale fragrances didn't help me be ready for the Dark Aoud. This is going to be the weirdest review I've written, but this is one of the weirdest scents I have smelt in a while.

Here's my first impression;

Upon application I was waiting for the sharp medicinal scent I'm familiar with however I was punched in the face with peppery grease, cold metal & dirt - I look down & I'm wearing overalls, smeared with oil, standing in sawdust. I look around me & realise I'm standing in a car workshop. What on earth? The radio's blaring, car hoods are open. I see motors, car bodies, buckets of bolts. I'm aghast! I didn't expect to be transported here! Where am I? How do I get back????

Then the sandalwood, teak & leather step in & now I'm now sitting inside a Jaguar with the door open. I can smell the workshop outside, but that's muted. The leather seats get my attention. Soft & rich. I turn & see the dashboard, I can smell a little plastic, and a lot of wood.

It smells as though someone has polished the dash with a fancy oil. I lean back in my seat. I can tell right now this is going to be an interesting ride. I hope the owner doesn't mind the oil stains.

I wasn't sure about Dark Aoud at first, but it really intrigued me. I sat the sample on my desk & would smell a wonderful sandalwood wafting to my nose every now and again. The sandalwood is creamy & rich, I think the saffron really helps with the richness. I think that's what lured me in! The aoud is pungent & medicinal, which, like the aoud in it's brother Black Aoud, is quite addictive.

I find that also, like Black Aoud, the scent seems to alternate between the aoud & other notes (particularly the sandalwood). Sometimes I will simply smell aoud, other times sandalwood. Sometimes a mix. It's unpredictable.

After several tries, I realised that I quite enjoy wearing this.

Layering

Having since purchased a full bottle, I've been having fun co-wearing (on separate arms) Dark Aoud with other scents. I find that it gives depth to fruity scents and have worn it with other fragrances such as Montale's Mango Manga, & Fruits Of The Musk. Dark Aoud gives life to samples that I haven't really liked.

Bottle

I quite like the Montale bottles. The fact that they don't have a lid is a little strange, but I do like that the bottle is metal & that the perfume inside stays in the dark. They look quite industrial & I think its clever of Montale to create a bottle that would appeal to men.

You might be shocked at first as they feel like they are half full - for some reason Montale have 120ml (?) bottles filled with 100ml of fragrance, so it splashes around like it's been used or hasn't been filled properly. Also, as the bottle is metal instead of glass it feels very light. Luckily I was prepared for this when I bought my first full bottle of Montale.

Longevity

Dark Aoud lasts a LONG time. I have had a 16+ hour wear!

How much do you wear?

I highly recommend, especially if you're just starting off, wearing just a smidge of your sample (or half a spray) & work your way up if you want more.

Spray too much & you will hate it forever. You'll also risk being hosed down by family, co-workers & strangers - this stuff is strong!

Conclusion

Dark Aoud is strange, which is why I like it. An adventure in a bottle.... I find the cold metal, peppery oil & wood so interesting. The Sandalwood/Teak is very rich & alluring. I find myself detecting it during the day, wondering who is wearing such a mysterious perfume - then I realise - its ME! :-)

This is a scent that seems to be very popular with men, but women can definitely pull it off.

You MUST sample first however as it's love it, or hate it. Make sure you give it a few wears. You will either enjoy wearing it, or you won't. It's that simple.

Reminds me of: I have never smelt anything quite like Dark Aoud.
I had heard of the brand but never seen the bottles in person or tried the scents. JHAG seems to be everywhere now so it's easier to find & try. Although I was tempted I decided to include it in a Luckyscent haul to try it out on my skin for a few days first.

Here's what JHAG has to say about Vengeance Extreme;
Vengeance Extrême is a chypre fragrance which draws its intensity from an unusual dosage of Patchouli, Bulgarian Rose and Vanilla. A trail suggesting an evident sensuality, with a zest of provocation. Not to be left in innocent hands...

Perfume Notes:

Patchouli, Bulgarian rose, Vanilla from Madagascar

Scent

Vengeance Extreme is a simple, sexy scent. At first spray it is quite strong & very perfumey although it settles down within a few moments. I love the patchouli in this one - at first it seems to be quite fresh & bright - it soon turns slightly dark.

My favourite part of Vengeance Extreme is the vanilla. It's so very smooth, like a delicately whipped chantilly cream. It's a change from the super sweet vanillas I usually go for. The rose in Vengeance Extreme is more of a background scent here, blending with the patchouli. It is quite a comforting scent & Vengeance Extreme would work in Spring but would be perfect for Autumn or Winter.

When I first wore it, all day I knew that I had smelt something similar before, but I couldn't place it. Then I realised it reminds me a little of one of my favourite orientals - Joop! Femme which is much cheaper & I enjoy it a lot more. Sorry VE!

Bottle

I can't say much about the bottle as I have a sample however from looking at it at the store I find it quite elegant & unique. The face that it's dark/covered is great as it will protect the perfume inside from light, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to feel how much is left for those who own a bottle.

Longevity

I find that fragrances with patchouli last quite well, and this is no exception. Longevity is about 5-6 hours on me. It gradually fades to become a skin scent for the last couple of hours.

Conclusion

Vengeance Extreme is a beautiful fragrance but unfortunately I don't find it to be unique enough to spring for a full bottle, especially at $200. I will finish my sample!

When I started looking for perfumes featuring this note - one name that came up quite frequently was TokyoMilk's No. 10 perfume - Honey & The Moon.

Here's what TokyoMilk has to say about Honey & The Moon:

"A decidedly different collection of brilliantly paired fragrance notes
housed in an alluring glass bottle decorated with Summer's buzzing bee."

Notes: Sweet Honey, Sugared Violet, Jasmine & Sandalwood

Honey & The Moon

Honey & The Moon has such a cute & unusual name, and a very interesting scent.

I found this perfume at David Jones & my first impression wasn't the best - I thought it smelt like sugary honey & smouldering burnt cardboard & plastic. That made me recoil a little. Granted, it was straight from the bottle & I should know better than to base my impression on the scent from a nozzle but a tester was not available (more about that later).

I put it back on the shelf & continued browsing, forgetting about Honey & The Moon.

A few weeks down the track I saw the bottle again, and decided to buy it - sort of a blind buy as I had not tried it on my skin.

So, I took it home & wore it the next day. I'm very glad I got it as it's amazingly goooood.

Scent:

At first spray you get the sugary sweet honey. I feel that the honey very realistic, and seems similar to the honey note in L'Occitane's discontinued Honey & Vanilla. Soon after comes the sandalwood which combines with the honey to give it that burnt smell - however on the skin it's more of a sugary toffee smoky wood type vibe than burning cardboard.

The Violet gives the scent a tiny flowery twist which softens the edge of the honey & sandalwood, whereas the Jasmine gives it an sharp indolic twist. The jasmine seems similar to the jasmine in Lush's Lust fragrance. I love that these notes are so well blended yet you can still detect each of them separately. This shows a very well made fragrance.

I have to say Honey & The Moon is a little strange. In a good way! I wondered if the
strangeness would mean people wouldn't like it? I didn't wonder for long
as my SO (significant other) gave a rare compliment it as soon as I put
it on (what's that smell???? I like that one!) & the first time I
wore this in public I got a compliment within 5 minutes. Win!

I think Honey & The Moon is best worn in Autumn/Winter & Spring. I've been wearing it on crisp Autumn Sydney days & it's been absolutely perfect.

Longevity:

The longevity for Honey & The Moon is great - it lasts from morning till evening. I would say about a 8 hour wear. I think the sandalwood has a large part in the longevity.

Honey & The Moon - such a beautiful bottle.

The design of the bottle is definitely one of the drawcards of TokyoMilk fragrances. It's a simple, classy & artistic design. The label from the front is quite basic - brown with the name, & number of the fragrance/brand. When you turn the bottle around you are greeted by art on the reverse of the label through the perfume & bottle - a beautiful honey bee. It makes you want to display it "backwards". Each TokyoMilk perfume has a different picture, depending on the scent.

The nozzle sprays a very good amount of product & doesn't seem to stick, and does not feel flimsy.

Honey & The Moon is only available in a 30ml bottle, which is a little sad because it's so small (petite?). I do wish it came in a bigger size. I love my 100ml bottles as I can spray to my hearts content.

No Box?

One thing I found unusual when I purchased TokyoMilk is the lack of a box. I guess boxes are not so important however when I bought my bottle of Honey & The Moon most of the bottles had been used as "testers" by people browsing the range. I realise that it is too tempting for people to try the scents if the bottle is in front of them, especially if there is no real tester. Not good for people who want to buy the fragrance as it immediately becomes used. I guess this is an issue for the retailer to make sure they have testers available for use, & to keep the new bottles out of reach.

Conclusion:

Honey & The Moon is comforting, weird, different,
unique. Everything I look for in a fragrance. I can definitely say that this scent is slowly creeping into my favourites list. It's so comforting & unusual. I love it!

I have since bought the Honey & The Moon shea butter lotion to layer with the scent - it's beautiful, as well as the Honey & The Moon candle which I have yet to use.

If you like honey & sandalwood you need to try Honey & The Moon. I do recommend that you try it on your skin first - especially if you don't like indolic/sharp Jasmine notes as this type can be one that some people don't like.

TokyoMilk is such an interesting line, I can't wait to try more, especially the Dark Collection.

I've been loving samples lately, especially Montale which has lead to a few full bottle purchases. I wish I found this brand a long time ago as I'm loving the quality & longevity. You MUST sample though, they're too expensive to blind buy!

I was just about to pull the trigger on another Montale sample purchase at Luckyscent when I found Europerfume's 7 vial sample packs.

I like Luckyscent, I find their sample vials a lot easier to use than The Perfumed Court however the carded Montale sample vials are even easier to open & use and last for quite a few wears which lets you really get to know a scent. Important if you're considering a full bottle purchase. Sometimes Luckyscent will send carded Montale sample vials for one or two scents but they are usually their own vials with a wand & label.

So, when I saw that Europerfumes were offering carded Montale samples I knew I had to order from them. A 7 vial sampler pack costs $10US per pack making each sample $1.42US. Bargain!

They also offer $10 off a full bottle purchase if you buy their sample pack. They seem to have a good selection of Montale too. My full bottle Montale collection has grown over the last few months & I can see it getting even bigger

So, I decided to partake in a 7 Vial Sampler Extravaganza!

Europerfumes offer a few different sampler packs with groups of perfumes, eg the Montale samples are in groups named woods & musks, roses & flowers & aoud for example. How do you choose between the Samplers? Well, I couldn't so I got them all, even the mens pack. I also decided whilst I was at it, I may as well include the Comptour Sud Pacifique 7 vial Sampler pack too.
As I already have a few of the samples/full bottles) getting these packs means I have a few doubles (& triples) however I figured that I can just use them when travelling, or give them to friends/family to try.

I was very happy with Europerfumes customer service. They were very helpful, friendly, answered all of my questions promptly & went out of their way. The packaging & postage was reasonable & very quick too.

The only small negative about the experience was that instead of Aoud Leather, they sent Aoud Moon (in the Mens Sampler) without letting me know. I was looking forward to trying Aoud Leather after reading some reviews and already had a sample of Aoud Moon. :( Oh well.

Opening each carton I got a small whiff of the scented goodness inside. The musks smell amazing, the aouds are ever intriguing & the mens samples smell great - especially Woods + Spices. The Comptour Sud Pacifique samples smell so sweet. I have a couple of them already, so it will be great to smell more of the range.

I've already started to use them. I'm a little overwhelmed with the choice! It's like being a kid in a candy store!

Here's what I got;
I still like the scent, but the sooner I finish this bottle, the better.

Why? Read on!

I was drawn into the hype of Chloé EDP just when it was released. I was wandering through David Jones & encountered eager Sales Reps holding the bottle & cards. I took a sprayed card & was intrigued by this bright rose fragrance.

The scent seemed to grow on me. During a shopping trip with a friend a few months later I took home a little bottle of Chloé.

Perfumers Description

I can't find their official description on their website. Chloé just raves about the bottle. Hmm.

Notes

Pink Peony, Freesia, Lychee, Magnolia Flower, Lily of the Valley, Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Honey

Scent

Chloé EDP is a beautiful simple scent. Roses & peony. One thing I love about it is that it's a fragrance that's suitable for a number of occassions. Great for work, or a night out, it has an innocent yet sexy charm about it.

Whenever I wear or smell Chloé the image that comes to my mind is roses & cotton. Yes, cotton. Freshly laundered cotton bedsheets. Maybe Chloé is not so innocent after all!

It doesn't go through any development on my skin. What I get at first
spray is what sticks with me. I'm happy with that. It's not cloying at
all.

Chloé is definitely a crowd pleaser. People love it, and it's one perfume that even if people overspray (I knew a girl who put way too much on) it's still nice. I love smelling this on other people. Probably more than I like smelling it on myself.

Longevity & Sillage

Sillage is
decent, quite good for a mainstream scent. Longevity is amazing for this scent. I know it's an EDP but I didn't
expect that, simply because whenever I wear it it seems to fade after a
while. I simply took it at face value, however I was so surprised one
evening when I was about to go home a co-worker said I smell lovely & she asked what I was
wearing. I couldn't believe she could still smell it!

Bottle

OK. Here it is. My dislike. The bottle is the reason why I don't like Chloé anymore.

Here's what Chloé says about the bottle;

"AN ICONIC BOTTLE

Just as the fragrance fuses classic elements with fresh ideas, and airy sweetness with woody strength, the flacon is a study in opposites.

Designer Patrick Veillet drew on the itricate detail of the sleeve of a Chloé blouse as the inspiration for the delicately pleated glass walls of the square flacon.

An oval cap plays off the strong lines while a silver collar adds a nostalgic feel. The metal plaque is a unique example of craftsmanship rarely seen in modern perfumeery, and graced with the finishing touch, a lously knotted petal-coloured ribbon."

Tarnished!

The bottle is a cute design, I will give them that. It reminds me of Miss Dior Cherie which also has a bow. The cuteness of the bottle faded fast just a few months after owning Chloé. Why? The metal on the bottle turned a tarnished matte black brown.

Not only that, this chemical change also turned the pretty pink bow into a dirty pink colour.

I couldn't believe this happened. It looks awful. If I had known the bottle would turn a green/brown/black there's no way I'd have bought it. Not happy Jan.

Chloé - after trying to clean the tarnished metal.
I wish I took a photo before as believe it or not,
this looks much better than it was.

I keep all my perfumes in a clean cupboard in the same conditions. I
have NEVER come across anything like this with any other perfume
bottles. Ever.

I probably should have taken it back and/or complained but I simply put it at the back of the cupboard (hiding it behind my other perfumes) & left it there.

One day I got the bottle out & decided to try & clean it up with a silver polishing cloth. The picture you see above is the result of that cleaning. It doesn't look as bad as it did but it's not back to the shiny silver it was originally. I wish I took a photo before I tried to clean it to show you what it looked like.

If the metal was completely silver (925) it should have come up sparkling - I use the same treated cloth to clean my silver jewellery - but it doesn't.

I know that this has not just happened to me, there are many complaints which you'll find if you do a Google search. It seems that the flankers in the same bottle also tarnish.

Imagine trying to swap or sell a bottle of tarnished Chloé. Imagine buying a used tarnished bottle? No one would be very impressed!

Poor manufacturing Chloé.

Conclusion

People put perfume on to add a bit of aromatic beauty to their day. Chloé IS beautiful, but who wants to put
on a beautiful fragrance from an ugly looking bottle? The bottle is meant to be part of the experience. I won't be
buying any more perfumes from this line.

If you're thinking of purchasing Chloé, I would say spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
Very very hard for me, as there are definitely a few favourites in my collection.
I noticed that some of my scents had not been worn for 12 months. :/ Hence the challange.
I was introduced to the Fragonard line with Fleur de Vanille - see my review here. Quite impressed with Fragonards quality, I realised that it was part of an EDT collection called Les Naturelles.

I eyed the other perfumes in this collection with interest & decided to go for a blind buy! They all sounded so alluring, but I really love the scent of orange blossom & mandarin so finally decided on Fleur d'Oranger.

This is what Fragonard have to say about their fragrance;

"Hidden amongst its leaves polished with green light lies the orange blossom that has given us a suave eau de toilette as sensual as it is fresh. Tender neroli blossom joins with bergamot, jasmine and musk to enchant our senses with an inexpressible voluptuousness."

Fleur d'oranger's notes are;

Top notes: Orange Blossom, Bergamot, Mandarin
Middle notes: Jasmine, Honey.
Base notes: Musk

How does it smell?

True to its name the top notes - orange blossom, accompanied by mandarin are first notes I detect. I'm happy that they also last to the dry down for me!

Then comes the bergamot. I'm generally a fan of bergamot anyway, and in this case it's enough to let you know it's present but it knows it's not the star of this scent.

The honey note is next to appear & gives the fragrance an additional background sweetness. Then comes the jasmine & finally the musk.

The supporting notes in Fleur d'Oranger are so well behaved. Many orange scents that I've tried start out well, but the orange is
usually overtaken & muffled by a stronger note - especially musk or jasmine, however they never do in this composition.

Fleur d'oranger is sweet, but not overly so. I would describe it as being "bright & cheerful" with aromatherapy qualities. It is a perfect Monday morning pick-me-up after you've dragged yourself out of bed. It sure improves my mood on those foggy mornings.

This is not a complex fragrance, and I like that. Sometimes you just need something
simple. I haven't experienced any crazy weird notes coming
out of nowhere.

Fleur d'oranger is definitely one of my go-to fragrances for hot Summer days & I look forward to using it to brighten a few Winter days when I don't feel like a cozy vanilla scent. It's also a perfect & safe work fragrance. No offending anyone here!

I really do like this one.

Longevity

I expected Fleur d'oranger to be like similar florals & disappear within a couple of hours but I must say I've been pleasantly surprised as it does last quite a few hours - almost a whole working day (8 hours) on bare skin. I haven't tried layering with moisturiser so I'm sure I'd be able to get a couple more hours that way. Fragonard does have a matching shower gel & body lotion that I may look at getting down the track however I have an orange blossom lotion by MOR Cosmetics that I may try layering it with.

Who can wear Fleur d'oranger?

This fragrance is not in the Men's section on the Fragonard website but I don't feel that it's specifically marketed to women either - very clever Fragonard! Fragrantica lists it "for women" but I disagree. It's definitely unisex, & could be worn by a man. So I would say go for it guys! You eat oranges too right?

The Bottle:

Fleur d'oranger's bottle is a simple yet elegant design which sprays a perfect amount of scent. It's a good quality atomiser which lets you control the amount of fragrance that comes out. I always like that.

Cost:

Fleur d'oranger retails at about $80AU if you buy it in Australia. I bought my bottle from evilBay for about $40AU which makes it a very affordable fragrance.

I wanted to purchase directly from Fragonard as their prices are even cheaper (you can also buy refills) alas Australia is a country they do not ship to. Sad face.

Would I buy it again?

I think my 100ml bottle will last a while, but I will definitely repurchase when it runs out.

Last thoughts

If you love the scent of orange blossom & mandarin, you will definitely love Fleur d'oranger. It is a simple, elegant & well blended quality fragrance. It could also be used to "brighten up" other fragrances. I'll definitely be trying this.

The Fragonard Les Naturalles collection looks extensive with other fragrances "starring" notes such as Fig (Figuier fleur), Cedar (Cedre), Lavender (Lavande), Patchouli, Verbena (Verveine) & Vetiver. My thought is that they would work really well together & I'd be very interested to experiment with layering them with each other to make different scents.

There seems to be a collection/trial pack that I've seen pictures of, but I've never seen it for sale anywhere.
I guess I was hoping that it would be released in Australia & I'd be able to try it out instore. I asked around at different department stores & got multiple blank stares (Myer & David Jones I'm looking at you!).

I eventually forgot about this fragrance whilst waiting for something that's never going to happen.

Fast forward to March 2013. I found & subscribed to Ouch110's YouTube Channel a few days ago & am really loving his fragrance review vlogs. Today I noticed his Alien TTOF review & clicked immediately.

He describes his fragrance very well - the salty nature of TTOF really intrigues me. So I let my mouse "do the walking" & headed over to eBay. I was THIS close to buying a bottle, but I really need to slow down on my full bottle purchases. The samples seemed to be a similar price per ml so I talked myself out of the full bottle & into the sample instead.

Feeling very proud of myself. Gold star for meeee!

Oh, but I did manage to accidently buy some Angel The Taste Of Fragrance samples as well. :D Well, you really need to make the postage cost worth it. Know what I mean?
I recently watched this video made by TNwireless - check out his YouTube channel here.

He's taken the time to do an amazing detailed side by side comparison of
an authentic versus a fake bottle/box of Gucci Guity Pour Homme that he received.

It's a scary how good the fragrance fakes are becoming. Thankfully people like TNwireless are helping each other out this way.
No? Me either, but I was strangely interested when I read about this release.

Demeter Fragrance Library known for their quirky colognes such as Dirt, Baby Powder, Sex On The Beach, Funeral Home, Junior Mint & Holy Water have released two new limited edition fragrances - Zombie for Her & Zombie for Him.

Here's what they say about it:

dried leaves, mushrooms, mildew, moss and earth. A definite must-have
Zombie for Her: A slightly lighter version of the Men's fragrance with a touch of Dregs

Will I be ordering a bottle or two?

It sounds interesting - dregs, leaves, mildew, mushroom, moss & earth - I already know Demeter do the Dirt scent well. I'm happy to see that the "rotting flesh" note seems to have been left out.

My experience with Demeter has been novel & I'd like to try it, but at $40US shipping, I think I'll be reading what others have to say.

Cost: $20US for 30ml / $39.50US for 118ml

This review is a departure from perfumes but I'm sure that anyone who loves fragrances can appreciate the scent of a beautiful candle. Here's one of my favourites.

I stumbled across Big Dog Candles a couple of years ago ago whilst roaming around Narrabeen Village Markets.

I smelt something pretty all of a sudden & like a perfume bloodhound - followed my nose. I saw the stall & the array of coloured candles with very enticing names.

Since then I've bought a few each visit & have a little collection.

Big Dog Candles are made from 100% soy wax. I don't know a lot about soy candles but apparently they are 1) eco friendly 2) burn evenly 3) don't create as much smoke or soot as an ordinary beeswax candle.

One of my favourite BDC's is Sugar Cookie. I told them about my infatuation with vanilla (I already have their vanilla candle Mr Bean) & they said that I had to smell their new melt, they also had the same scent in a huge candle. Well, from first sniff I was instantly hooked. Sugar Cookie is........

.... GOURMAND HEAVEN!

I was so tempted to buy the candle however as I am a woman of many tastes I just couldn't commit to that big candle. I didn't want the melt as I can't find my melt/oil burner.

The friendly stall holders (and candle makers) Mick & Steve understood my dilemma & offered to make a travel tin version to be ready for pick-up at the next monthly market. YES! I said instantly.

The rest is history.

About Sugar Cookie

How can I describe Sugar Cookie? Fresh baked cookies straight from the oven, a little doughy, dripping with sugar, a bit of butter & oozing vanilla. This candle smells so good that you'll want to EAT the whole tin. Sugar Cookie is certainly a crowd pleaser & you won't want to stop smelling it - lit or unlit. The colour is a gorgeous doughy beige mixed with brown swirls.

Burning Time & Sillage/Throw

I have a few candles so I'm not sure that I will get through Sugar Cookie too quickly (if it was my only one it would be finished right now!), but it tends to be one that I grab most frequently. All up so far I've probably used it for about 4 hours & it's still going strong.

Sillage (or "throw" in the candle scent world) is amazing. The whole house smells delicious & although it's dripping with sugar it's never overpowering or nauseating. To me anyway.

Cost

I bought the travel tin (pictured above) in a 3 pack deal for $25. I think they're $10 each, but my philosophy is why get 1 when you can get 3? Believe me, it's hard to choose 3, but impossible to just choose 1.

Sugar Cookie's usual form is in the Melt format, however I don't have a burner which is why I got the tin made to order. I quite like the tins - they look pretty sleek & stack very easily as they're compact.

Would I buy Sugar Cookie again?

YES YES YES. {Insert When Harry Met Sally table hits here}

My rating: 9.9/10

I definitely recommend that you check out the Big Dog Candle stall, even if you have to go out of your way.

They are usually at Narrabeen Village Markets (beside Narrabeen Lake) in Sydney on the 3rd Sunday of each month, however they also seem to travel to other areas of NSW occasionally too, such as Penrith & Maitland & have recently opened a branch in New Zealand.

They're really good at keeping people updated, so see their Facebook page for updates on their location.

PS: I have no affiliation with this company, I just love their candles to bits.
I just found this link & thought it sounded interesting.

It's a fragrance which is meant to smell like - you guessed it - MONEY.

Apparently packed in real shredded US dollar bills (is that legal?) this fragrance is the essence of cotton, linen and silk.

Has anyone tried it?

I just want to say, welcome to the new blog! My name is Kelly & I am a perfume addict. Well, that's what some people say anyway. Why? Because apparently I own too many perfumes.

No! How can you own too many perfumes? Impossible! You must buy more! I hear you say.

Or was that the little voice inside my head? ;-)

Officially started in March 2013, you'll notice that there are reviews from 2010, 2011 & 2012. A little confusing. Well, I used to run a beauty blog which I may still update every now and again but I found bit by bit that it was being overrun by perfume reviews. So, I figured, well, I love beauty, but perfumes are my passion - why not have a perfume blog.

So here it is.

I've been on my perfume journey for a few years. It's a great hobby. I have picked up so much along the way yet there's so much still to learn.

If you're wondering, no, I'm not here to sell you anything, I'm just obsessed with fragrances. I hope
to chat, laugh with & share info with like minded people.

I also hope that possibly, my little dent in the big blog world is helpful to those who share this passion.

If you find my posts interesting, agree or disagree with what I have to say please comment.

If you'd like to be kept up to date you can also subscribe to this blog, or follow me on Facebook or Twitter.

Enjoy.

I didn't ask for this sample & haven't really read much about this fragrance. I was excited to try it!

Fragrance Notes:

Lemontree Leaves
Green Apple
Blue Chamomile
Parma Violet

The Scent

Sunset Flowers starts out like an uber floral EA (Elizabeth Arden) power fragrance - the
apple & violet I'm guessing. At first I thought - oh no! A generic
Montale!

It then surprised me by taking on the relaxing chamomile, calming down
the fragrance slightly. I love chamomile tea, and this is the first instance that I've actually recognised chamomile as a note in a fragrance. I like it!

Then the petitgrain comes into the tag team. I've never really noticed petitgrain before (although looking up the
note I see it's in a couple of my perfumes) & was pleasantly
surprised by the woody, herby slightly spicy quality that it gave this
scent. It's at this point that Sunset Flowers is turned into a unisex
fragrance & would now probably appeal to men.

It reminds me a little of a less lemony Eau d'Hadrien by Annick Goutal (see my review here). The apple gives it a tiny sour tilt which matches the herbs perfectly.

This one is definitely worth a try by both men & women.

Would I buy a full bottle?

Well, whilst I do like Sunset Flowers, I just don't love it. So although
I will wear & enjoy my sample whilst it lasts, it will not turn
into a full bottle. It's just not me right now.

My rating: 6.5/10 (.5 is for the Chamomile!)Diary Of A Perfume Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12581277439243434975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1084327874038601016.post-31469235332656465002013-02-11T17:30:00.000+11:002013-03-03T12:47:39.501+11:00Valentines Day PerfumesSo, my OH asked me what I wanted for Valentines Day. I gave him "that grin" that said, do you need to ask?

I'd been lemming a few of my Montale samples that I'd purchased from Lucky Scent & The Perfumed Court & asked if I could get my 3 favourites. To my surprise he agreed. I sent an email to Parfums Raffy to see if they had them in stock. They did!

So, I've ordered the following;

Sweet Oriental Dream 100ml
Velvet Flowers 100ml &
Vanille Absolu 100ml

I asked them if they could include a sample of Montales Blue Amber & Mukhallat. They said they could, and also said they'll include a few others that I might like. Woohoo!

Very excited to receive these!!!!

Parfums Raffy told me it should take about 3 weeks. So the wait begins! :) :) :)
I must. have. them. So when I saw this sample at Lucky Scent, I had to give it a whirl.

The Scent

Extreme is 200% correct, this one is super duper sweet!!!! Your dentist would NOT approve!!!!

Vanille Extreme (this one is the EDT version) starts off with a tooth achingly sweet vanilla ice cream blast, as if you've had your head stuck in the carton & had a massive feeding frenzy. It's dripping from your nose, mouth & chin. You can almost FEEL the stickiness of the sugar, vanilla & milk.

The vanilla here is not rich or warm, but similar to concentrated vanilla essence and the milk note makes it creamy & sweet. Sillage is at maximum here!

The heliotrope then joins in but turns into a bit of a party pooper, calming the scent down with a floral twist. Don't get me wrong, it's not awful however personally I'd prefer the sugar, milk & vanilla to be solo.

Lasting Power

The initial blast of Vanille Extreme lasts about an hour or 2 on me, and then stays close to the skin, it doesn't completely fade. During the day I get vanillary whiffs that make me want to lick my arm.

Will I Buy It?

I will enjoy my sample whilst it lasts, but I don't think I will be buying a full bottle of this. It's very nice, but I don't love it.

Do I Recommend It?

If you're a vanilla lover like myself, you MUST try it! I recommend picking a sample up at Lucky Scent before you spring for a while bottle though.Diary Of A Perfume Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12581277439243434975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1084327874038601016.post-91391499588804819552012-11-25T17:30:00.000+11:002013-05-11T13:55:40.004+10:00Fleur de Vanille by FragonardI was absent-mindedly browsing through perfumes at a boutique when I asked the SA if she had anything with vanilla. She bought out Fleur de Vanille & sprayed it on a strip.
I thought it was nice, threw the strip in my bag then promptly forgot about it.

A few days later I detected a beautiful scent. Mouth watering vanilla. What is that smell????? I found the strip wondered why I had dismissed it so quickly. Wow, I was in love!

French perfumery Fragonard describe their scent as;

"Sensuous vanilla flowered with Ylang, heliotrope and rose on a sweet harmony of chocolate, cocoa and musk"

What do I think?

This fragrance is very very sweet so you'll have to be a huge gourmand lover, but don't expect a cheap cupcake vibe. Sensuous is right! The vanilla in Fleur de Vanille is very impressive. Luxurious, silky smooth & rich.

There is a perfect hint of florals - rose, heliotrope & ylang ylang - & a touch of musk. These notes are so well blended & don't overpower or ruin the vanilla.

To tie everything up in a beautiful French bow - the cocoa/chocolate note brings everything together perfectly.

How long does it last?

The longevity is amazing for an EDT & lasts up to 12 hours on my skin. The cardboard strip I was given lasted weeks.

Would I buy it?

Fleur de Vanille is of the best floral vanilla scents I've smelt in a long time. I've already purchased a full 100ml bottle. When this bottle is half used, you can bet that I'll be ordering a new one. I will definitely be checking out more from Fragonard too!

You wouldn't think much from the name or the packaging (especially the square bottle). So many perfumes these days rely on attractive bottles to make you try a scent (and it certainly works!). Annick Goutal bottles all look the same so you really have to rely on word of mouth/reviews, an eyecatching name or good ol' perseverance to find a scent for you in this range.

I happened to stumble upon a tester of Eau d'Hadrien on its own. I ignored it & looked at perfumes around it, but then I saw they had a small 15ml bottle for sale @ a bargain price. I admit, the reason I tried it is that I really wanted to own an AG perfume as I'd heard so many good things about this line. So I tried it. I am so glad I did.

Fragrance notes:

Sicilian Lemon

Grapefruit

Green Mandarin

Cypress

Aldehydes

Ylang-Ylang

What do I think?

Eau d'Hadrien is simple, classy & super-wearable. It is also an addictive scent & really energising. definitely a form of aromatherapy.

This fragrance starts with a super fresh just cut lemon scent, not long after a lovely fresh grapefruit & mandarin combines with the lemon. The scent is very natural & it is deliciously juicy.

Just when you think you have Eau d'Hadrien figured out the cypress/aldeydes gives it a small unusual herb type quality & the ylang- ylang gives it a tiny soft edge.

I usually choose this fragrance when it's warm, or I don't feel like a "complicated" perfume. This is just so easy to wear. It is also perfect when I need a pick-me-up. You know how you just have days like that?

I see many people compare this perfume to cleaning products, well I don't use lemon cleaning products often & the ones that I have used certainly don't smell like this!

When to wear it?

Eau d'Hadrien works for anytime of year, however is simply perfect for Summer.

Who can wear Eau d'Hadrien?

This perfume is termed as Unisex. Whenever I see the word "unisex" I'm very weary as the scent usually still leans on one side (be that masculine or feminine - usually the former) however Eau d'Hadrien is neither & I would most probably call it Asexual as it is neither feminine, nor masculine if you know what I mean.

Longevity?

Lasting power is not too bad on my skin, I get a few hours out of the EDT. It will last even longer if you layer it over moisturiser. The scent seems to lie close to the skin but I get lovely whiffs of it during the day.

It also seems like a perfect layering scent, I am eager to try it with vanilla or sandalwood as I think they would compliment it very well.

The bottle?

There seems to be two different bottles - the square one (which seems to be marketed to men) and the tall bottle (see both above). I have a small square bottle - it is great as it lets you control how much you use, whether it be a dribble, half squirt or a full spray. Some perfume bottles only let you do a full spray or none at all. I might be way off base, but I feel that this shows the quality of the nozzle.

Would I buy it again?

Yes, I will definitely re-purchase Eau d'Hadrien when I run out.

I highly recommend you try Eau d'Hadrien!

Here's my order;

Montale - Chypre Vanille
Montale - Jasmin Full
Montale - Chocolate Greedy
Montale - Boise Vanille
Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Vanille Abricot
Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Amour de Cacao
Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Vanille Extreme
IL PROFUMO - Vanille Bourbon
IL PROFUMO - Chocolat Frais
IL PROFUMO - Chocolat Amere

I threw in Montale's Jasmin Full at random, I guess as the list seemed very Winter oriented I wanted to get at least 1 Summery sounding fragrance!

Cost:

All of the above samples ended up at $34 total. The Montale fragrances were $4 each, the Il Profumo & Comptoir fragrances were $3 each.

Postage to Australia ended up being $8 which okay. Though I can't imagine that samples would take up much room - they'd probably fit in a padded envelope.

Can't wait to try these out! :)

Update; Tuesday 9th October, 2012 - the order has been marked as posted. Pretty good despatch time considering I ordered over the weekend. Can you imagine how many other people worldwide were mouse shopping too? It was posted on the Monday afternoon.

Update: Monday 22nd October 2012 - I got the samples today!!!! Packed in a small padded envelope & wrapped together with a little bubble wrap.

The Il Profumo is packed in 1ml vials. The Montale Chocolate Greedy sample was a manufacturer made 2ml sample, the rest of the Montales were in 1ml sample vials. All of the Comptour Sub Pacifique vials were manufacturer made spray vials.

I'm very happy with my Lucky Scent purchase.

The only problem now is what to try first???????????Diary Of A Perfume Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12581277439243434975noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1084327874038601016.post-81025527023802872992012-09-28T14:34:00.000+10:002013-03-03T14:42:29.952+11:00My first Lucky Scent Order! So I've been hearing a lot about Lucky Scent perfume samples & decided to take the plunge & order a few!

I have to say, at $4/$3 per sample, cost per ml is quite high (the average is $2 or $3/ml) however I've been eyeing a few niche fragrances lately. I've been quite lucky with my blind buys over the years however I realised that I really need to be sampling niche perfumes first otherwise it could be a costly experience!

The ordering process with Lucky Scent was very easy - the only hard part was choosing what to get! I decided to start small, so here's what I got.

Montale - Sweet Oriental Dream
Montale - Velvet Flowers
Montale - Vanilla Extasy
IL PROFUMO - Chocolat

Looking forward to trying these samples.

Update: 2nd October - My order has been despatched.

Update: 16th October - I've received my samples! Woohoo! I couldn't help but try one of them - it was hard to choose however I now have Vanilla Extasy on my wrists right now. Woohoo! I really like the vials - they're easy to open & marked well with a printed sticker.
Diary Of A Perfume Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12581277439243434975noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1084327874038601016.post-79860535624678082892012-04-01T15:30:00.000+10:002013-03-02T20:34:49.939+11:00Twilight by LUSHI'm a big fan of the Lush Twilight bath ballistic (as well as the Shower Gel) & although I adore it, it's a lot of money for something you use for a few minutes then wash down the drain. Still, I think it's worth it as an occasional treat. I love the smell so much that I have wished it would last longer.

Needless to say, when I found out Lush make a Twilight EDT perfume - I knew I HAD to have it.

Notes:

Top Note: Lavender oil
Middle Note: Ylang ylang Absolute
Base Note: Tonka bean Absolute

How does it smell?

The notes in Twilight are basic - Lavender, Ylang Ylang & Tonka Bean. These 3 simple notes go so well together & create a very luxurious scent. The bath ballistic has a lovely malty quality & I wondered if the translation from bath product to perfume would work?
Twilight perfume 30ml

At first spray, you get a strong waft of Lavender. It smells so distant from the Twilight bath ballistic I immediately thought that it was going to be a fail. Good try Lush.

Not long after however, the Ylang Ylang comes through & soon after the Tonka Bean. The Lavender steps back & it turns into the creamy Twilight I know & love. Phew!

You don't have to be a big lavender or ylang ylang fan to love this. They are both more supporting scents rather than standout florals.

Twilight is very very comforting. I find myself smelling my wrists throughout the day. Lasting power is great. One spray on each arm remains for 12+ hours, after which it's still there - but lies close to the skin.

The Bottle

The only thing I dislike about this perfume is the bottle. The black bottle seems to be thick glass covered in black colour which I admit, will protect the perfume from light. The issue is however that you can't see inside & the weight makes it very hard to tell how much perfume is left in the 30ml bottle.

Also, one tip is make sure you don't get any perfume on the bottle, as the alcohol will dissolve the black dye & it will run - dying anything in its path black - including your fingers. I found this the hard way when another Lush perfume I purchased leaked a little during transit.

I realise that this is the new way Lush/Gorilla Perfumes are packaging their product, but if I had my way I would get them to go back to the glass bottles they had previously. At least you could see how much perfume is left.

Conclusion:

I'm very happy to say that YES - the transition from bath ballistic to perfume was successful! I'm ecstatic that it's just like the bath ballistic. Twilight is a great perfume & it lasts longer than some of my more expensive perfumes. At $50US for 30ml it's not the cheapest fragrance, however I feel that it's worth it.

So, my advice is - if you love the Twilight Bath Ballistic, don't even think about it - buy this NOW! You won't regret it!

-------

Recommended for: Winter, cooler days.
Where to buy: Twilight is a limited edition perfume released in the UK & US, unfortunately at this time it is not available for purchase @ Lush Australia.
Cost: Usually about $50USD + delivery (I purchased my Twilight on eBay)

My Rating: 8/10 (2 points taken off because of the bottle)Diary Of A Perfume Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12581277439243434975noreply@blogger.com0
